ABU DHABI- The Arab Diplomatic Group, under the patronage of H.H Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak, Chairperson of the General Women’s Union (GWU), Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation (FDF) and President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, is launching the ‘Our Hearts With The People Of Syria’, a two-day charity fundraiser to raise donations for hundreds of thousands of Syrian children inside Syria, next Tuesday at the head office of GWU in Abu Dhabi.

The fundraiser, which features a charity bazaar and exhibition and traditional performances from all Arab countries, was announced today by wives of Arab ambassadors to Abu Dhabi in a press conference at GWU.

The effort is a collaboration between GWU and the Red Crescent Authority (RCA).

In her remarks at the press conference today, Mrs. Nadia Al Hasshani, wife of the Libyan ambassador, and head of the Arab Diplomatic Group, thanked H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak for her generous patronage of the group’s activities this year.

Other members of group includes the wives of the ambassadors of Jordan, Egypt, Tunis and Algeria.

Mrs. Jathal Al Hindawi, wife of the Jordanian ambassador, said the fundraiser is just a part of a larger pan-Arab and U.A.E.-sponsored humanitarian effort to help Syrian refugees including the setting up of the fully-equipped Mrajeeb Al Fhood refugee camp in Jordan as well as through other material support.

Mrs. Amena Baltayeb, wife of the Tunisian ambassador, commended U.A.E. for being at the forefront of raising funds and setting up camps for refugees in poor countries. She noted that U.A.E. built two medical centres in Tunisia.

In December 2013, under directives from President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, U.A.E. launched a charity telethon under the same name ‘Our Hearts With The People Of Syria’ to raise urgent aid for Syrian refugees in winter.-WAM
