Future Scientists to Compete in International Chemistry Olympiad 2025 in UAE

DUBAI, July 5, 2025— The UAE will host the 57th International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO), the world’s leading scientific competition in chemistry, bringing together more than 360 students from over 90 countries.

The event, held in Dubai from July 6 to 14, marks the largest participation in the Olympiad’s history since its inception in 1968, highlighting the UAE’s growing role in global science education.

Sarah Al Amiri, Minister of Education, said hosting the prestigious event reflects the UAE’s vision to become a hub for education, science, innovation, and academic excellence. She emphasized the country’s commitment to nurturing young scientific talent.

“This milestone will inspire Emirati students and help shape a new generation of scientists capable of innovation and global competitiveness,” Al Amiri said. “It also represents a national opportunity to enhance the quality of education and develop a learning environment that keeps pace with the world’s best models.”

Zaki Nusseibeh, cultural adviser to the UAE president and chancellor of the United Arab Emirates University (UAEU), described IChO 2025 as a global platform that celebrates academic excellence and fosters scientific innovation among youth. He highlighted UAEU’s role in advancing scientific research and education.

“Our participation reaffirms UAEU’s commitment to national leadership in knowledge generation, dissemination, and application for society’s benefit,” Nusseibeh said. “Empowering youth and supporting global scientific collaboration are essential pillars for a more prosperous and sustainable future.”

Organized by the UAE Ministry of Education, the Olympiad’s agenda includes advanced theoretical and practical exams, cultural tours, and social events promoting global cultural exchange. This edition introduces technological innovations such as digital tools for exam monitoring and an integrated practical testing environment, setting a model for future educational labs.

Four students, selected through a national process, will represent the UAE after completing intensive training, including workshops at UAEU and a science camp at the Sirius Education Centre in Russia. This preparation underscores the Ministry’s dedication to empowering national talent to meet international standards.

IChO 2025 aims to motivate Emirati youth to pursue chemistry and related sciences and encourages educational institutions to update curricula to align with global standards.
