UAE Witnesses Annular Solar Eclipse

Dubai: The UAE witnessed a partial annular eclipse (solar eclipse) today. The annular eclipses occur when the Moon – passing between Earth and the Sun.

The moon in this process is not close enough to our planet to completely obscure sunlight, leaving a thin ring of the solar disc visible. And that is why it is also known as the Ring of Fire.

The eclipse, which is expected to last for around three hours, started between 8am and 11am, and was broadcast live from Abu Dhabi by the UAE Space Agency’s social media channels.

In the UAE, residents the moon covered 86.31 per cent of the sun’s disk at its peak around 9.35am. The Dubai Astronomy Group, advised the public to observe this celestial event by taking all necessary precautions. This level of coverage of the solar disk is not going to happen until the next 25 years.
