Samsung Electronics Takes the Lead in Global OLED Monitor Market

Seoul, Korea: Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., the renowned figure in the display industry, has clinched the top spot in global sales of OLED monitors, achieving this milestone just one year following the launch of its inaugural OLED model — the 34″ Odyssey OLED G8 (G85SB model), tailored specifically for gaming enthusiasts.

According to the latest data from the International Data Corporation (IDC), Samsung Electronics has emerged as the leader in the global OLED monitor market, commanding an impressive 34.7% market share based on total revenue, and securing the highest position in market share based on sales volume, with 28.3% of OLED monitors sold in 2023.

Hoon Chung, Executive Vice President of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics, emphasized, “The OLED monitor market is fiercely competitive, demanding unparalleled innovation and product quality to secure the top spot. This accomplishment underscores our unwavering commitment to excellence and our keen insight into consumer preferences, which are pivotal in crafting exceptional OLED monitors tailored to meet the demands of performance-driven gamers worldwide.”

Additionally, Samsung has maintained its dominance in the overall global gaming monitor market for the fifth consecutive year, boasting a market share of 20.8% in terms of total revenue.

Since its foray into the OLED market, Samsung has consistently pushed the boundaries of innovation and garnered acclaim for its new monitors, notably the Odyssey OLED G9 (G95SC model), which received widespread recognition from experts and reviewers globally.

During CES 2024, Samsung unveiled an expansion of its OLED monitor lineup, introducing three new products:

  • The Odyssey OLED G8 (G80SD model), featuring a 32” 4K UHD resolution, a 16:9 aspect ratio, 240Hz refresh rate, and 0.03ms response time (GtG).
  • The Odyssey OLED G6 (G60SD model), offering a 27” QHD resolution, a 16:9 aspect ratio, 360Hz refresh rate, and 0.03ms response time (GtG).
  • An updated version of the Odyssey OLED G9 (G95SD model), boasting a 49” dual QHD resolution in a 32:9 aspect ratio, a 240Hz refresh rate, 0.03ms response time (GtG), and featuring new enhancements.

Early reviews of the new OLED offerings have been overwhelmingly positive, with the Odyssey OLED G9 securing recognition as a CES® 2024 Innovation Awards Honoree, further solidifying Samsung’s reputation for innovation and excellence.

Looking ahead, Samsung remains committed to diversifying its gaming monitor lineup by introducing new Odyssey OLED models, each harnessing the power of Samsung’s proprietary OLED technology. This strategic innovation builds upon the success of the Odyssey Neo series with Quantum Mini LED technology and the Odyssey Ark, which showcased groundbreaking interface and form factor designs.
