DOHA– QMA launched on Wednesday(May 7th) the Creation Generation Project, an initiative running alongside the Richard Serra exhibition in Qatar.
Each week, Qatar Museums Authority will follow the creative journey of one of six local artists who will create a piece of work inspired by Richard Serra, using a variety of mediums from painting to video.
The project kicked off last week with the cartoonist Abdulaziz Yousef and continues this week with Khalifa Ghaith Al-Kuwari who specializes in sword making.
Khalifa has been crafting his swords since 2005, over these 9 years, Khalifa has developed a bespoke style including Islamic, Arab and Qatari heritage at the core of his works.
The other artists that will be featured in the following weeks are: Amira Fareed, Abdulaziz Alajail, Haya Al-Thani and Mohammed Abdullah Al Dossari.
Richard Serra at QMA Gallery at Katara and Al Riwaq Doha exhibition space started 10th April and runs through 6th July 2014, East-West/West-East is a permanent addition to Qatar’s public art landscape.-QNA
