OIC Secretary-General reiterates strong commitment to promote dialogue among civilizations

BAHRAIN- The Secretary-General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, Iyad Ameen Madani, has reiterated the OIC’s strong commitment to promote dialogue both among and within civilizations as a means to combating all forms of bigotry, intolerance and discrimination that threaten peaceful coexistence among people and nations.

He made this statement during the inaugural session of a three-day conference in Bahrain, which was organised by the Kingdom of Bahrain under the patronage of the King, His Majesty Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, on the theme of “Dialogue of Civilizations – All Civilizations in the Service of Humanity”. 

The inaugural session was addressed by prominent Islamic personalities and scholars, including the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Ahmed Muhammad Ahmed el-Tayeb, H.R.H. El-Hassan bin Talal from Jordan and H.R.H. Prince Turki Bin Faisal Al Saud.

Earlier, The OIC Secretary-General, during his official visit to Bahrain, had an audience with the Prime Minister, H.R.H. Sheikh Khalifa ibn Salman Al Khalifa, who expressed the continuous support of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the OIC as well as the initiatives and reforms aimed at reinforcing solidarity and cooperation among Muslim countries. 

The Secretary-General also met the Minister of Justice and Islamic Affairs, Khalid bin Ali Al-Khalifa, and Ghanim bin Fadhul Al-Buainain, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, with whom he discussed the longstanding relationship between the Kingdom of Bahrain and the OIC as well as ways and means to strengthen joint Islamic action and issues of concern to the Muslim world, including the Palestinian question, the situation of Rohingya in Myanmar, the ongoing conflict in the Central African Republic as well as the growing phenomena of Islamophobia and religious extremism. -WAM
