High-level delegation from China visits DMCA

DUBAI- Dubai Maritime City Authority (DMCA), the government authority charged with regulating, coordinating and supervising all aspects of Dubai’s maritime sector, recently welcomed the visit of a high-level delegation from the People’s Republic of China (PROC). The visiting delegation, which was headed by Dr. Yuan Shuhong, Vice Minister of the Legislative Affairs Office of the State Council, was composed of members from the Chinese Legislation Affairs Bureau.

The meeting was a key opportunity for the authority to highlight the Dubai Maritime Strategy, which is aimed towards creating a radical and positive change for the local maritime industry and reinforcing Dubai’s position as a world-class international maritime hub. Officials of the DMCA threw the spotlight on the positive results gained from the implementation of the new maritime sector strategy—highlighting strong advantages like integrated marine safety, secure navigation and improved operational efficiency.

ImageImageDuring the visit, the Chinese delegation was briefed on the DMCA’s quality initiatives that have been created with the aim of further developing more maritime services, update regulations on maritime safety and enhance and optimize local infrastructure. According to DMCA senior officials, the initiatives that the authority has implemented will help transform the local maritime industry into becoming one of the most unique and highly comprehensive marine clusters in the world. In addition, the two parties were also able to discuss how the implementation of best international practices and compliance with the latest standards and regulations will keep them at pace with international developments.

The delegation was also given a presentation that discussed maritime regulations in Dubai. In response, the Chinese officials lauded the DMCA for their key efforts, which will allow the emirate to become one of the most prominent maritime hubs in the world. Furthermore, they stressed on the importance of the maritime sector strategy as it strengthens the competitiveness of the local maritime sector, which has become an attractive environment for the regional and international investors. The delegation also expressed their willingness to hold bilateral meetings periodically–exchange leading expertise and develop more maritime legislations as these are fundamental pillars of the maritime sector and is an essential part of the development process.

The strategy has been designed to enhance the competitiveness of Dubai at international levels. We are looking forward to building effective relationships with prominent international organizations of maritime sector, where we can seek to transfer knowledge and exchange expertise with the aim to create a secure and renewable maritime sector.”
