Hamad International Airport Breaks Records in Q1 2024, Named World’s Best Airport

Doha/ Shafeeq Ali – Hamad International Airport (DOH) has soared to new heights in the first quarter of 2024, smashing previous records and earning global recognition as the World’s Best Airport for 2024 according to the prestigious Skytrax World Airport Awards.

The airport witnessed a remarkable surge in activity, with passenger traffic surging by 27.6%, aircraft movements by 23.9%, and cargo operations by 15.4% compared to the same period last year.

Over the quarter, Hamad International Airport served a total of 13,171,540 passengers, with January, February, and March each seeing substantial footfall. In addition, the airport facilitated the movement of 69,959 aircraft and handled over 626,338 tonnes of cargo.

Notably, the airport’s commitment to enhancing passenger experience and operational efficiency was underscored by the introduction of dedicated transfer security lanes for families with children, aimed at reducing wait times at security checkpoints.

Furthermore, Hamad International Airport was awarded the ISO 45001:2018 Occupational Health & Safety Management System Certification, affirming its dedication to safety and quality standards.

Commenting on the achievement, a spokesperson for MATAR, the Qatar Company for Airports Operation and Management, highlighted the airport’s focus on data-driven operational enhancements, which earned them the ‘Best Innovative Use Of Big Data And Analytics Award’ at the Qatar Digital Business Awards 2023.

The airport’s ORCHARD project also received recognition, winning the ‘Large-Format Digital Canvases’ award for its innovative 1.2 Kilometers Digital Ribbon in Barcelona.

With connections to 188 cargo and passenger destinations and a network of 48 airlines, Hamad International Airport continues to solidify its position as a global aviation hub.

In addition to being named the World’s Best Airport for 2024, the airport clinched titles for Best Airport Shopping and Best Airport in the Middle East, further cementing its reputation for excellence.
