Growing Super 8 hotel brand opens first property in the Middle East

RIYADH–Wyndham Hotel Group, part of Wyndham Worldwide Corporation, today(May 4th,2014) announced the opening of Super 8 Riyadh, the first of the economy hotel brand’s properties to open in the Europe, Middle East, Africa and Indian Ocean (EMEAI) region.

Super 8 Riyadh is the first hotel to open as part of a master development agreement with Saudi Automotive Services Company (SASCO) for 20 Super 8 hotels in Saudi Arabia over a period of five years. The economy brand, with over 2,400 properties throughout the U.S., Canada, China, Brazil and now Saudi Arabia, has more properties than any other economy hotel chain in the world.  Celebrating its fortieth anniversary this year, the brand will now also be able to meet the needs of the growing domestic tourism sector in the Middle East.

“We are thrilled to introduce the globally recognised Super 8 brand to Saudi Arabia, a unique economy concept in the market,” said Rui Barros, senior vice president and managing director, Europe, Middle East, Africa and Indian Ocean for Wyndham Hotel Group.  “The Super 8 Riyadh will serve as a comfortable place to rest for road travellers throughout the Kingdom, making it ideal for the long highways and the growing number of car journeys in the market.”

The brand has several agreements in place to expand its presence further throughout the EMEAI region. In February, Wyndham Hotel Group announced the groundbreaking of Germany’s first Super 8 in Munich, part of an agreement with Tristar Hotel GmbH to open 10 Super 8 hotels in Germany. Last year the company also signed a multi-year agreement to open 20 Super 8 hotels throughout Turkey with İlbak Turizm İşletmeleri Ve Yatirim A.Ş.

Situated minutes from King Khalid International Airport and nearby Amira Noura University, Super 8 Riyadh offers 57 guest rooms and suites featuring clean, contemporary design complemented by friendly service at affordable rates.

“We are very happy to partner with Wyndham Hotel Group and believe Super 8 will be able to fill the gap in the market for travellers who need a modern and economical stay on the highways and in the major cities across the Kingdom,” said Mr. Sultan M Al Hudaithi, managing director, SASCO.  “This step will add to Wyndham Hotel Group’s presence in the region and strengthen SASCO’s competitive edge, supporting our new vision to become a market leader in terms of quality and integrated services for drivers and travellers.”

SASCO, the largest petrol station operator in Saudi Arabia, already provides a range of integrated services to motorists across the country, including roadside retail and fuelling stations, catering and vehicle maintenance.
