KUWAIT- The Ministry of Electricity and Water and Ministry of Public Works started Sunday(May 4th) the operation of a solar power generation project to provide their premises with their needs of power.
“The project is an initiative taken by the ministries to enter into the era of renewable energy,” Minister of Electricity and Water and Minister of Public Works Abdulaziz Al-Ibrahim said in a speech at the project launching ceremony.
He added that the concept of using solar energy as a clean and renewable source of energy should be generalized and applied by the different state buildings.
He stated that the project is also part of Kuwait 2030 strategy that aims to at least 1 percent of its energy needs through solar power projects.
The Minister pointed out that nearly 4094 solar panels have been installed on the roofs of buildings to produce 1 megawatt, or 500 kilos for each building.
Another project with a capacity of 3.5 megawatts would be put forward for tender shortly, he unveiled.-KUNA
