Dubai Health Authority holds webinar to mark UAE’s Month of Reading

Dubai, United Arab Emirates, March 13, 2021: To give you a little more motivation to read, DHA is encouraging community members to tag DHA on its socials using the hashtag #ReadwithDHA. DHA has also been conducting a series of seminars this month to highlight the brain health benefits of reading.

The latest seminar discussed the strategies that worked in further encourage reading across Dubai’s Government Sector.

The seminar was organized by the DHA’s Research, Studies and Data Analysis Department and was attended by a large number of DHA staff and other government departments in Dubai.

The seminar was moderated by Dr. Mohamed Salah Eldin Mudawi from the DHA’s Research, Studies and Data Analysis Department. The speakers included Obaid Matar Al Ketbi from Dubai Municipality, Mohammed Al Habsi from the Dubai Culture Authority, Mohammed Mamdouh Ali from the Department of Economic Development in Dubai and Wafa Khalid Al Muhaisin from the Dubai Health Authority.

The webinar highlighted the role that government departments can play to encourage and foster a culture of reading so that employees can be motivated to read themselves as well as encourage family members, particularly young children to read.

Khalid Jallaf, Director of the Data Analysis, Research & Studies Department at the DHA discussed the importance of inculcating a culture of reading, reading for academic growth and development as well as ensuring collaboration between all government departments to encourage collaboration in reading, research and innovation.

In the previous seminar held on reading, Prof. Janusz Antoni Jankowski, said “Just like exercise, learning new skills as well as regular reading are both good for your brain.”

He is a doctor, educationalist and scientist.  He is currently the dean of College of Medicine at United Arab Emirates University, in Al Ain, UAE.

Prof. Jankowski said: “Reading is a lifelong learning process and a growing body of research indicates that reading changes your mind, for the better.”
