Du Celebrates International Girls in ICT Day with Inspiring Activities for Future Women Leaders

DUBAI -Emirates Integrated Telecommunication Company (EITC)’s du marked International Girls in ICT Day on April 27th by organizing a range of activities for students at GEMS Wellington Silicon Oasis. The aim of the event was to inspire and encourage girls to pursue careers in the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) industry.

Du, which has made significant efforts towards improving gender balance in the industry, shared valuable information about working in the telecom sector, as well as the exciting future of technology with the students aged 16 to 18 years. During the event, an interactive poll was conducted to gauge the students’ interests and preferences.

Notable speakers included Dr. Alia Al Serkal, Head of People Learning & Growth who represented du’s Gender Balance Council, Noora Nasser, Project Manager – Transition & Transformation on behalf of the Youth Council and Noura Almatrooshi, Manager – New Business & Innovation Marketing Operations.

The event was held in support of the International Telecommunication Union’s theme for this year’s International Girls in ICT Day – “Digital Skills for Life”. Du’s commitment to diversity and inclusion is aligned with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, with a particular focus on reducing gender inequality (Goal #5) and promoting equal opportunities (Goal #10).

Du’s Gender Balance Council plays a key role in promoting women’s empowerment and advocating for equality and inclusion within the organization, in line with both the UAE’s national agenda and international best practices. As the first GCC telco to achieve 20% women representation at board level, du continues to be a leader in advancing gender diversity in the ICT industry.
