Drag racers set to battle in a thrilling season finale

F17_7000F17_7000BIC, Sakhir– Races will be won and champions crowned at the fifth and final round of the 2013/2014 Bahrain Drag Racing Championship, to be held this week at Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) in Sakhir.

Up to three drivers in each of the 13 highly competitive categories are still in the running to claim their respective titles.

The season-finale is set to be held over four nights of high-octane action at “The Home of Motorsport in the Middle East”.

Action gets underway Tuesday and Wednesday (May 6 and 7) with two evenings of Test and Tune. Qualifying will then be held on Thursday (May 8) night to determine the elimination round’s pairings for race day on Friday (May 9).

F17_6752F17_6752The programme begins at 6pm on each of the first three nights, while race day is scheduled for a 5pm start.

Racing will take place under rules and regulations of the BDRC, the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) and the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA).

The season is set to reach an exciting climax this weekend as the title remains up for grabs between each group’s top competitors.

Among the most hotly contested categories is the Outlaw Rear-Wheel-Drive (RWD), where E K Kanoo Racing Team members Gary White and Ebrahim Kanoo are among those still with a chance to capture the crown. Mohammed Zainalabedin is the other.

In the Street 4 and 6 class, Abdulaziz Faisal, Mohammed Ali Jaber and Ahmed Faisal are the battling trio; while in the Outlaw Front-Wheel-Drive (FWD) category, Ebrahim bin Hasher, Ali Ahmed and Mohammed Abdulredha are all in the running.

The leading contenders for the Super Street RWD championship are Yousif Abdulla, Nawaf Ahmed and Ahmed Al Tayeb; and in the Street V8 are Ali Aljowdar, Khalid Abdulkareem and Adel Khameri.

F17_6063F17_6063The Super Street V8 pits Jassim Al Muqahwe, Abdulla Al Shati and Talal bin Eidan against one another.

The Competition 4.5 Index sees Abdulaziz Alsaleh, Mohammed Salama and Tariq Hadi going head to head; while in the Outlaw 10.5, Abdulla Alsuri, Hussain Alshmeri and Abdulwahab Al Salim are the contenders.

The Index 10.5, which is in its debut season and which has been attracting a huge number of participants each round, features Abdulla Al Shamsi, Hassan Jassim and Khalid Abdulkarim in the top three.

The last group for the cars classes is the Pro Mod, and its best three drivers heading into the final round of the championship include Khaled Mohammed, Khalil Ebrahim and Mohammed Alfayla.

There will also be plenty to play for in the three motorbikes classes.

In the Street Bike division, Musfer Al Musfer, Mohammed Bu Rashid and Meshari Al Otabi are the three drivers battling for the crown, while in the Super Street Bike it is Meshari Al Turki, Abdulla Al Najdi and Meshari Al Otabi.

Bill Vose, Mohammed Bu Rashid and Meshel Al Saber were all part of the top three in the Pro Bike standings.

Each of the 13 categories will crown its new champion on Friday, making for a thrilling showcase out on BIC’s quarter-mile strip, which is a member of the prestigious NHRA Worldwide Network.
