VIENNA- Irina Bokova, Director-General of UNESCO has described the cultural cooperation level between the UAE and UNESCO as excellent at all levels, stressing UNESCO’s need to the UAE’s efforts to make its educational programmes successful.
She told Emirates News Agency (WAM) in an interview on the sidelines of the distribution of 12th edition of UNESCO-Sharjah Prize for Arab Culture in Paris, that the outstanding cooperation between UNESCO and the UAE includes education, heritage and preservation of historic landmarks.
Bokova praised the UAE, being a role model for cultural communication, religious tolerance and coexistence among all cultures. “We have a very strong cooperation with the UAE and we receive strong support in various fields, particularly in the educational and education of girls domain.” She reiterated that “Regarding the cultural field, the UAE plays an important role as a member intangible heritage and for contributing to signing a number of agreements. I am so pleased of this cooperation.”
Regarding the UNESCO-Sharjah Prize for Arab Culture, Director-General of UNESCO extended thanks to Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, for his initiative to establish this award.-WAM
