DUBAI- Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has launched, for the second year, its annual campaign during the holy month of Ramadan under the theme, ‘This Ramadan, let your good deeds outweigh your consumption.’ The awareness campaign is aimed at promoting rational consumption of electricity in line with DEWA’s strategy to raise awareness among individuals and organisations in Dubai on rational consumption of power and water, conserving natural resources and protecting the environment.
DEWA is also collaborating with the Department of Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities to retrofit several mosques with high-tech water reduction equipment to lower water consumption. As part of the campaign, and in collaboration with the Ministry of Social Affairs, Beit Al Khair Society, and Etihad Energy Services Company, DEWA will visit a number of low-income households to replace old appliances with newer more efficient ones to reduce their energy and water costs.
“The launch of the second edition of this awareness campaign is in line with the directives of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai, to achieve the sustainable development in the Emirate. We spare no effort in preserving our valuable natural resources and protecting our environment to ensure a sustainable future for generations to come. All year round, DEWA organises events and launch campaigns to raise awareness among different segment of society about the importance of rational use of electricity and water and how this helps in strengthening the foundations of sustainability. Rational use is directly linked to the teachings of Islam which forbids all forms of wastage,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA.
Al Muhairi stressed that rational use of power and water should not be limited only to the holy month of Ramadan, but also be extended as a lifestyle by individuals throughout the year.
“DEWA expresses its gratitude and appreciation to all our partners for their efforts that have contributed to the success of this campaign,” concluded Al Muhairi.
