DUBAI- Mirdif City Centre in Dubai has become a magnet for families and philanthropists, all coming together as one to raise money for approximately 1.2 million Syrian refugee children without education during a fund raising drive running until May 31st.
Fundraising events by the Big Heart Campaign are led by its patron, Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Wife of H.H. the Ruler of Sharjah and UNHCR Eminent Advocate for Refugee Children.
H.H. Sheikha Jawaher has expressed her satisfaction with the fundraising progress so far, and said, “We are delighted to see parents leading by example by coming to Mirdif City Centre and showing their children the importance of generosity at an early age. The home should be the first classroom of every child, because parents are a child’s first role models. The public to us are the real ‘stars’ of the show; the many donors who contributed to our campaign and gave 1.2 million Syrian children the right to dream of a brighter future.” Education is the issue that is particularly close to Her Highness’ heart, and she has visited Zaatari Camp in Jordan to meet mothers and children, getting first-hand information on the number of teachers, schools and books required.
The fundraisers will add to the $13 million donated by the campaign over the past year, which has touched hundreds of thousands of Syrian lives by providing emergency healthcare, warm clothing, blankets, shelter, food and other relief.
Donors can send their funds through ‘Salam Ya Seghar’, endorsed by H.H. Sheikha Jawaher.-WAM
