DOHA- Qatari Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al-Thani inaugurated the 2nd Arab Water Conference here on Tuesday(May 27th).
He said that the government of Qatar is working to provide the needs of water in line with a clear-cut policy and a comprehensive strategy for the management of natural resources in order to achieve sustainability, save the rights of future generations and develop the necessary infrastructure for the water sector to ensure the provision of water needs with a high degree of efficiency and in accordance with the highest international standards.
In order to achieve good results at the level of the water sector, Qatar, represented by Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (KAHRAMAA), has launched the National program for Conservation and Energy Efficiency (Tarsheed) to achieve an effective reduction of electricity and water consumption during five years, he added.
On the conference, the Qatari prime minister regarded it as a great opportunity to support the programs of sustainable development in the Arab countries, hoping that the conference’s outputs, working papers, discussions and recommendations would contribute to finding solutions to the many challenges facing the Arab countries in the water sector.
He concluded by calling for more efforts to be exerted to reach scientific and practical outputs and recommendations that can be implemented in the short, medium and long term so as to provide a bright future and a safe and stable life for future generations.-KUNA
