Adrian Hayes begins K2 ascent

UAE-based adventurer Adrian Hayes has today (Tuesday 22nd July) begun his final ascent of K2.

Hayes, who has spent the last five weeks acclimatising and establishing a series of camps on the world’s second highest mountain, will this afternoon begin his journey from base camp at 5,100m to the 8,611m summit. The ascent is expected to take five days.

If successful, Hayes will be the only Brit to have scaled the world’s two highest peaks and reached both the North and South Poles. He will be the only British climber to summit this year and the eighth ever.

Just hours before setting off on his epic challenge, Adrian said: “The expedition is sponsored by UAE-based Thuraya and their distributors XtraLink, who have provided satellite communications systems for Hayes and his team throughout the expedition. Other sponsors are California Chiropractic Center, JA Resorts, outdoor clothing company Marmot, sports nutrition suppliers MEFITPRO and website designers Tentwenty.
