Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority launches Photography Initiative

Abu Dhabi – Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority (TCA Abu Dhabi) has  launched a new initiative that will contribute to enhancing the art scene and fostering talent within the emirate’s photography community. This initiative, in line with TCA Abu Dhabi’s overall mission, is designed to support an inspiring community of photographers, through a vibrant annual programme including exhibitions, workshops, master classes, competitions and projects, as well as the establishment of a dedicated space for the art of photography.

This new hub for photographers will be based at Manarat Al Saadiyat, in Saadiyat Island’s Cultural District, where it will offer the essential platform for professionals and artists to improve their skills, expose them to new techniques and the latest approaches in photography, and assist them in maintaining a steady and professional growth of their talent.  Through this specialised facility and the services it will present, artists will be faced with an exceptional opportunity to expand their creative methods, sustain their sources of inspiration, and further deepen their knowledge and unique characteristics in photography.

HE Saif Saeed Ghobash, Director General, TCA Abu Dhabi, said: “As we strive to catalyse creativity in Abu Dhabi and the UAE, nurturing an artistic environment has been our core focus, and through this initiative we strive to introduce the new generation to the art of photography. The  series of programmes developed, together with the establishment of a dedicated space, will promote photography as a form of art, cultivate the capabilities and skills in our talented photographers, and ultimately will enable the emergence of a group of aspiring young  professionals. Aimed at encouraging the arts in the emirate, this initiative signifies our overarching commitment to enhancing the art scene in Abu Dhabi, and ensuring the development of a balanced cultural environment that will allow promising local talent to progressively and naturally flourish.”

Set to open later this year, the photography space at Manarat Al Saadiyat will house world-class facilities, such as an Alternative Processes Darkroom, a library, and production equipment that will qualify for holding workshops and master classes conducted by professional photographers.
