6th UNAOC global forum begins sessions

DOHA– Activities of the preparatory conference for 6th UN Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC ) global forum and the focal points meeting began at Ritz-Carlton Hotel on Tuesday(April 29th) under chairmanship of Nassir Abdulaziz Al-Nasser, the United Nations High Representative for the UN Alliance of Civilizations. 

During the aforesaid conference, due to kick off in Bali, Indonesia, on 29 and 30 August, 2014, representatives of the states and organizations will discuss measures to be adopted preparing for the 6th UNAOC conference due to open in Bali , Indonesia on 29-30 August, 2014 .

The participants will also review achievements the UNAOC has so fare realized and ways of developing and promoting joint action between governments and international organizations, said Al-Nasser in his opening speech before the conference. 

Al-Nasser further said that this event is being held under the theme of ” peace and prosperity for sustainable development ” and will be a strong impetus for meeting what had been achieved during the 5th UNAOC Global Forum , which was held in Vienna and represents an advent of the 6th UNAOC Global Forum that to be held in Bali next August. 

In his keynote address before the UNAOC conference, Dr. Hassan Ibrahim Al-Mohannadi, the Vice President of Qatar Committee for Alliance of Civilizations, said that Qatar has provided all forms of support to realize rapprochement between peoples and cultures , and resolve disputes among nations and societies, in addition to achieve peace and security . 

He pointed out that the State of Qatar participated in the establishment of this alliance and sought to support the efforts of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations – office of the secretariat. 
Al-Mohannadi stressed that Qatar Committee for Alliance of Civilizations had worked out Qatar’s plan for Alliance of 2010 and began to implement the second plan of 2014 , which is expected to meet aspirations of the committee and objectives of the Alliance. 

He affirmed that the State of Qatar will continue supporting the activities and programs of the UNAOC Secretariat to enable it implement its plans and programs, calling on the participants to play an influential role in carrying out plans and programs and have their active role in supporting the alliance.-QNA
